You are living in fear?
Consult a divorce lawyer. Do know, however, that you're a bit late off the mark. You didn't leave when he was abusive but of sound mind. You will find it more difficult to leave when he is no longer of sound mind.

This problem has often been on this forum, so you might want to stick around.
Our advice is always the same.
No one should live with abuse.
But this is the work of a divorce lawyer, not a forum of strangers with no way to intervene for your protection.

Next time there is an outburst call EMS and have him hospitalized and fully assessed; contact social workers and have him placed. This is a second option but it also will entail seeing an attorney for division of marital assets and protection of half the assets of the marriage for your future needs.

Good luck.

How is he "peaceful and easygoing" with a bad temper? That's a contradiction! A husband with dementia you fear has to be medicated and then placed.

Good luck to you.
