The last I knew, I had enough service hrs. to qualify for some assistance if needed, but policy changes. I'm in decent health for my age, live independently, no dependents nor close family. Have some independent investments (shrinking in value). Worry that I may run out of funds if my health turns bad. How do I determine any military eligibility I might have. esp. since paperwork might be missing.
You need to contact you local County VA dept and have your discharge papers available. They are the only one that can answer ur questions. There is Aid and Attendance but it is usually for those with health problems who need help with care. No harm in asking about it.

I had to check on my dad’s eligibility for my mom. Making it through the phone line was a nightmare, but every time I got a real human, they were helpful. I got connected to our regional VA office, and they were fabulous.
Also the VA has made a lot of effort in recent years to improve access to services so hopefully you’ll get an answer efficiently.
I’d start now before you need it. If you qualify, that means your service earned your benefits, so why waste them?
