I had to sign up, just to ask a question? Wow. Some guy named Andy called me and told me there was charges against me. I figured this was a scam, but wanted to be sure.
As Glad and NeedHelp cautioned, there are scams attempting to gain information to access bank accounts, charge accounts, and probably now even the old tried and true "piggy banks."
One of the scams is a robocall claiming to be a warning of imminent arrest. There are others with the same robotic voice. If this were true, I would have been jailed long ago.
Some of these robocalls with the same voice also have identifiable nonnative American speakers, whether it's grammar or use of words. The one threatening immediate arrest is one.
Did you mark down the number? If so, search for it on Google. If it's an 800 number, look for the hit that's specially 800 numbers, such as 800.notes.com. I've found it to be the only searchable free source for checking out potential scam numbers. Other sources lure you in and then transfer to a page which requires providing your own personal info or money.
If this person was/is with APS it may be that someone filed a complaint against you.
If you are your wife's caregiver someone saw something that concerned them and they have reached out to have the situation checked.
This can be a blessing for you. They can help you get help for you and your wife. Help you understand and utilize the resources available in your community.
They don't want to just take your wife and put you in jail, so don't worry about that. They want to make sure that everyone is safe and cared for.
Did Andy schedule a time to come out and talk to you? Did he leave a number for you?
You can Google the APS and call that number to confirm that it is in fact APS and he does work there.
