Are there any relatives there at all? Any neighbors? I am trying to think of people that can help you. My sister passed away suddenly (also caring for Mother) and I needed to fly from Tucson to Chicago, immediately. My sons flies a lot and he got on the computer and used his frequent flier miles for me. Do you know anyone that would have a lot of miles?

Your mother will have to apply for Medicaid. Does she have any assets?

I am wondering if your sister has family that can take care of her arrangements? I am so sorry. I am 60 and have been in a much similar situation.

I am so sorry at the loss of your sister.

It must be extremely stressful to have to take over your mother's care on such short notice as well. Do contact the social services department in her county. Can Mom get on in the house alone for a while, or does she need supervision? Let them know how much of an emergency this is, what mom's impairments are, and what income/assets she has. Help them as much as you can over the phone.

I'm so sorry you are in this fix. It will all work out, but not without some stress.
