Being forced to leave my home of 29 years due to foreclosure. I can't afford packing, storage, moving costs, and an apartment. My dogs and I are facing homelessness. I'm all alone. No one to help me. Is there a place to find help? I'm desperate and running out of time. My pets are registered compassion dogs. I can't be discriminated against because they are registered, but I can be refused renting an apartment due to a low credit score. Where can I find some help? I'm desperate!

No you can't be discriminated for having a registered emotional support dog, but the laws do not extend to having two emotional support dogs. You are definitely in a quandary right now. I wish you luck and hope your situation can get rectified for the better.

Look for HUD housing. We have an apartment building in our Township. They charge rent by scale. So if your income is $1000 rent would be about $300, 30%. Electric and cable are ur only expense.

It may work to sit tight and refuse to move even with the foreclosure. It would take a long time to remove you. The bank that takes the foreclosure may help. I would start now calling any charitable organization you can from Senior Centers to your City Counsel, Catholic Charities. While they may not help they may have guidance for you. The low credit will mean that many landlords will not consider you. I am so sorry for your situation. Start by calling churches and asking their pastors for guidance of where to go. Joann may be right that you cannot be forced out during covid. That doesn't mean that it isn't coming. In San Francisco often there are settlements, sometimes as much as 10,000 to help the moving. Do you have friends? Family? Your situation isn't unheard of now in our country. Try every agency you can think of.

HI AlvaDeer!
Thank you for your response. You gave me some helpful information that I'm going to look into. I'm trying to pick people's brains and hoping that they can come up with a source that may be beneficial to me. Several places that I've called can't help me, or choose not to help me. They give me other numbers to call, but I usually run into a situation that no one answers, I'll leave a message, and then I never receive any calls me back. All of this takes up so much time. I find it all pretty frustrating.
As for refusing to leave, I have no idea if I could get away with that. I signed an agreement with the bank for a program called "cash for keys". This agreement gives someone a certain amount of time to evacuate the premises for a certain amount of money. The longer amount of time you take to move out the amount of cash decreases. The payment is not made to the evactee until the premises is vacated and inspected. They have the right to withhold any amount of money they desire if the house doesn't meet the requirements when agreement was signed. Some of those were that the house needed to be swept, all items removed unless built-in, nothing removed from the yard.
I was length of time to be out by was extended 2 months when the quarantine started because people were not allowed to come in and help me. The 2 months will be up on July 31st.
I don't have any friends that can help, and my father is going to be 88, and unable to help much. My son lives in California.
I've contacted several organizations, including local agencies, the Salvation Army, Advocacy for Elders, etc. I'll keep trying. I thought that I would be able to get suggestions from others so I could refocus. I also registered my dogs as companion dogs to avoid discrimination, but I'm just rejected for a low credit score.
I'll keep plugging away and hope that something will change. Thank you for your suggestions.

I don't think u can be evicted during Covid. Call your Office on Aging. Ask them if there are resources to help you. I may call the Housing board too about the eviction.

Hi JoAnn, according to this article foreclosures and evictions are allowed during Covid in Cleveland, Ohio as the state bill has not passed as of yet:

I am truly sorry this is happening to you. I really don't have any expert advice...

I think if I were in your shoes and I had the choice of either paying people to pack for me or leave my things behind I would leave everything behind (except for what I really needed such as clothes, some pots and pans, photographs, etc.). Use your money to get an apartment so you have a roof over your head.

Furniture can be replaced over time. Put your priorities in order and find a safe place for yourself and your dogs.

Good luck,
Jenna
