I have been caring for my mom since her diagnoses in 2014. Mom is in her late stage(7) Alzheimer’s and Neuro has given her 12months left to live. On top of Alzheimer’s, mom has Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes (takes Novalog,Levamir, Jamunet), wheelchair bound, Bipolar, Anxiety, Depression, Sepsis (From numerous UTI’s), and so much more. Mom is in Hospice now in my home. She sleeps a lot during day and at night (approx 15 hours out of 24 hours daily). Mom also has gotten mean at times. Mom eats ALOT and gets mad if I do not fix food for her when she demands it. I have mom on a waiting list for a nursing home that cares for Alzheimer patients but have to wait till a bed opens up which is 6 months minimum. Does anyone have any advice???
I do get a break with my brother helping to care for mom as he does the cooking and cleaning. Thanks!!!

Find Care & Housing
I know there has been a lot pro and con opinions here about this agency, but I wonder if you shouldn’t contact A Place for Mom to help you find a place for her ASAP. I understand their services are free and the only thing I’ve heard about them is that once they get your number, they have it forever. I’m thinking you might get her in sooner if you had professional help.

My goodness, that's a lot to be dealing with. I hope you get some good ideas. I'd likely get a consult with an Elder Law attorney to see what your legal obligation is, if any. Are you living in her house or is she in yours?

I'd also confirm why she has to wait so long for a nursing home. I'd challenge that and explain that you are not trained, equipped or able to provide the care for someone with her needs, which is significant.

Does she qualify for a Hospice Center? Medicare should pay that, if one is open. I know they are difficult to get.

There has to be an option, because what if you fell ill and were not able to care for her? Someone from the county/state would have to intervene and find her a place to transfer.
