DCunningham, I am so sorry to read that your Mom, who is only 67 years old, is going through those medical issues.

Please note that a vast majority of grown children who are taking care of a parent do not get paid, unless the parent has funds that can be paid to the grown child. You would need to draw up an employment contract that you and your mother will sign.

The next issue is who will be doing the payroll taxes? If you are familiar with this you can do them yourself. Otherwise, there are payroll companies that can do this for you for a fee.

If your Mom has very little in funds, she can check with Medicaid [which is different from Medicare] to see if she qualifies and hopefully Medicaid will be able to pay you. But note, it is usually minimum wage for a few hours a day. This can vary from State to State.

You can't. Your mother's own funds stand to care for her. When they are gone she applies for medicaid. You find a job. Never in our recent history have there been so many available. I walk my neighborhood and small businesses are closing with pleas in the window for help wanted; they cannot stay open because they cannot hire help.
Good luck. If you inform us more on what's going on we can help you further, perhaps.
