Find Care & Housing
Just read that a revocable annuity can be cashed in. A irrevocable one can't be cashed in.

Now, are you trying to get Medicaid to pay for AL or just her supplimentals since she should have Medicare. I am confused here. You live in MI and she lives in Pennsylvania? No one closer to Mom to take care of the Medicaid? I can't imagine filling out a form without the help of a Medicaid caseworker. There is paperwork that is needed. The more you have when u apply the faster things will go. If you send in an application, then you wait for them to review then send a letter telling you what you need to send in. It could take months. Can a request be put in to the Company handling the annuity asking for an increase in what Mom receives to cover her rent? If you r asking for Medicaid to pay her living expenses better check wit AL to see if they except it.

Also please PLEASE read Heiser’s article on annuities on this site.

Annuities are totally sticky to deal with as - whether revocable or irrevocable- they have all sorts of details that need to be Medicaid compliant in order for them not to have to be cashed in or counted as asset. And should mom need to do something with the annuity, it’s best to do this BEFORE ever applying for Medicaid as it gives mom or you more flexiblility to decide where $ to go.
