She still recognizes the immediate family just has a hard time remembering things. I am the closest one to her so I feel like I have totally betrayed her. She’s going to realize that we have completely left her there! I feel awful.

So sorry. Its like when u leave your toddler at Nursery School for the first time. Leaving is so hard.

There has been controversy on should you stay away and let them adjust or see them right away. I believe, like a child, they need to see you a little while everyday, for a while. Otherwise, they may feel abandoned. You can back off as you see them adjust. You want them to join in the activities and this can't be done if you are there everyday for long periods of time.

Every person is different. My Mom adjusted but she was pretty much into her Dementia. You really have to feel things out and realize that this was a decision that had to be made. Its now not what she wants but what she needs.

I’m sorry. This is very hard, even when there is absolutely no choice.
