He has a small VA pension and modest Social Security income. He has lived in a subsidized apartment but is about to be moved into assisted living. He has no estate to speak of, except for a modest sum to cover burial expenses.
I would recommend taking that modest sum and prepaying his funeral. It will be put in a trust by the Funeral home. Medicaid will allow this.
