I brought my dad home from the nursing home 2 weeks ago, no help whatsoever. I need guidance. He is incontinent when he pees and poops. If he's all over muscle work and gets everywhere will not tell me when is wet or try to go to the toilet. I am emotionally, physically, and mentally exhausted all ready. He also has dementia.

Jessica, didn't anyone, especially a social worker, raise the issue of follow-up home care? If not, is there a PCP or other doctor involved who could script for this?

It does sound though as he needs a lot more help. Again, if there is a PCP, ask about the possibility of palliative. It's not hospice, but a step above since there's no issue of a terminal diagnosis involved.

Lastly, is he a veteran and if so, is he getting benefits through the VA? There's a range of services for which he might qualify.

Good luck.

I agree, he needs to go back to the NH. They all want to go home but that doesn't mean they r able to.

Jessica, do you think that your dad perhaps needs to go back to the NH?

Jessica; I just read your profile. It says that your dad was in a NH but wanted to come home.

Just because he wanted to come home doesn't mean that it was the best plan for his care. You have young kids who need your attention and care.

Can you talk to dad's doctor about getting him back into a care center?
