If so, now is the time to have whomever will manage her care contact social services to let them know you cannot care for her and she will have to be placed in safe care, perhaps in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) to recover from this; broken ribs can be very painful.
If Hanley Manor is a care facility they may be able to care for her, but if it is Independant Living or only apartments, she will need more. So it is important NOW, while she is in Hospital, to call Social Services and let them know no one can care for Mom on discharge should she need help. Call them today and discuss this with them.
I am so sorry. I wish your Mom, and you also, such good luck. Tell her to try to take long slow deep breaths because broken ribs can cause us to "slint" our breathing, taking in tiny little breathes. This can lead to pneumonia, a complication that would cause painful coughing.
I wish the very best for your own health. Have friends or family help you negotiate this with hospital social workers.
If there is no one who can care for her at home, they cannot release her. Its called an unsafe discharge. You need to call agencies near you for an aide. Talk to the SW at the hospital. Or, maybe its time to place Mom in an AL or LTC.
FYI A Place For Mom is only interested if your LO needs AL.
Is your Mom going to rehab first? If so, this will buy some time (Medicare 3 days in hospital then 20 days in rehab).
Talk to a social worker at the hospital or for her county. From rehab she can go directly into a facility.
Are you or is anyone her PoA? If not, and she doesn't have a medical diagnosis of cognitive impairment, then you may not be able to control where she goes after rehab.
