Hollywood Ca
I do not want an agency. I want to hire a private caregiver who needs a place to live and who would be available mostly nights and occasional days. The caregiver would get room and board and a monthly salary. They do not have to drive although that would be a plus. Mostly I need a companion for my mother and preparing light meals and assisting her to insure she does not fall If anyone knows how to find someone like that please let me know. Thanks

Blurfie19, one thing that you would need to do is call up your homeowner insurance carrier to ask about a "workman's comp" policy which is usually required if one has "employees" working for them on a regular basis.

If a caregiver comes through an agency, the agency doesthe caregiver's payroll taxes, etc. usually the Agency has their own workman's comp on their employees.

If you hire outside of an agency, also make sure the caregiver has had her flu shot and had a recent TB test.

Call your county agency on agency to see if they have a list of caregivers wishing to live-in plus receive a salary.

If you don’t want to use an agency then......either word of mouth or social media—Facebook and Craigslist. Just make sure you carefully screen the applicants.
