I am a ww2 wounded Marine. I am 99 years old. My wife of 76 years passed away on June 27, 2021. I will never stop loving her. Any advice?

Not trying to be funny but this post is from August 21, the person has probably passed. He was not in a NH because his wife was there, he is there because he also met the criteria. If he has no family, the State probably took over his care. If on Medicaid, he cannot get Aide and Attendance. (Except for $90 for personal needs)
The Social Worker at the facility should be able to find him any help he needs. But, if the State took over, he probably has no choices.

His home...probably just sitting there waiting for the county to put it up for auction for non-payment of taxes. Hopefully, a lien was placed on it by Medicaid after the wife's death. If not, Medicaid will not recoup anything for the care of the wife. Medicaid does not "take over" a house. They leave the sale of a house up to others.

The statement about the VA. I had no problem with them when applying for Mom. She was turned down for an explanation I never did understand. I could have appealed but by that time she entered LTC with Medicaid soon to be in the picture, so I didn't bother to follow thru because you can't have Medicaid and Aid and Attendance. I think like everything else, there are two sides to every story.

Lets say someone tells you that Mom couldn't get Medicaid even when she has nothing. And they complain how bad the system is. But, they don't tell you that Mom was turned down because she gave that same person 50k to remodel their home. Thats 50k that could have been used for her care.

You are a veteran during wartime. You are entitled to VETERANS Benefits. Call your local Veterans administration ASAP and they will send someone to your location to help you. Bless you and thank you for your service !💜

Do you have a health plan? Most of them have social workers who give answers to what you are asking. Also, most states have an Office on Aging who can assign a social worker to help you get the care you need. Do you have a way to contact Veteran's Affairs? I heard they were really awful, but you might get lucky. A man with good character and spirit.

You are a Marine and served our country in WWII? The Veteran's Administration and the Marine Corps are the ones who can help you get out of the nursing home. Maybe you would be happy in a veteran's home? You certainly qualify.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your wife. She must have been a great lady for how you speak of her. You will see her again.

Have you been privately paying for your care?
Are you on Medicaid?

I agree, you need to talk to the Social Worker. They cannot discharge you if it would be an unsafe discharge. They will help you find a way to stay there. If not already on Medicaid, they can apply for you but you need to be forthcoming with ur financial information. If you have a home and have no one to care for it, the Mortgage company will need to foreclose or the township for unpaid taxes. So, I would not worry about that. For Medicaid its an exempt asset.

Oliver, are you not getting any assistance from the VA?  If you served during WWII, you should be eligible, unless your financial situation disqualifies you.

I'm confused by your statement that you have no home, and are "fully mortgage ridden."  On what home or residence is this mortgage, or is it the home you had before entering the nursing facility?

Your local county VA office (if there is one) as well as a State VA office and also the local VA hospital can help you with registering for care.

I'm sorry for your loss Oliver. Ask the social worker at the nursing home to help you figure out your options, I'm not an American but I know that if you have no money you should be able to qualify for medicaid.
