Iodine scrub added to laundry will cut the urine odor. Upholstered furniture can be steam cleaned with an enzyme cleaner. You can rent a steam cleaner or hire Stanley Steemer or similar company. The odor is likely caused by kidney failure, so that waste comes through the skin instead of leaving via the bladder.
Pet odor removers are also helpful for laundry.

If the odor is urine, try adding white vinegar to the laundry. Also, (when the weather permits) allow the item to dry on a rack out in the sun. Place a towel on the recliner seat to 'catch' any drips. Wash it often.
