He naps all day and goes to bed at 9:30. He also hardly eats. Again, is this to be expected?

Sometimes people with dementia do sleep a lot. Other times, it could be something else causing it. I'd discuss it with his doctor and rule out other things like depression. Sometimes, meds help with that.
