Don't crush his pills without checking first if it is OK, some medications are time release or coated so they won't damage the stomach!

I I confide in his Hospice Home Health Care nurse about everything for his care. I know which ones I can crush and the ones I cannot. It's just that I know in the evenings he has a more difficult time swallowing it. I try yogurt, pudding including apple sauce and he refuses at times which by the way is more often than not

I find it hard to take pills myself, because they often stick part-way down my throat and then won’t go down or up. Very uncomfortable! I crush them either by crunching, or by crushing them in a small mortar and pestle or between two soup spoons. Then swallow with a drink of water. Nursing homes often put the crushed pill in honey or strong tasting jam on a teaspoon. Very old people can rarely swallow a pill, and I think the taste in yoghurt or pudding would be awful, certainly for me!

i'd discuss it with his doctor. Can he take them at different times? Also, ask for professional to do swallowing test. Sometimes, dementia eventually will impair the ability to swallow.

Well well the thing is is in the evening is the medicines that he has to take it which it makes him sleepy. One of them is a sleeping pill in the other one is for anxiety. If he does not take the sleeping pill or the anxiety pill then we're up all night
