Actually, for seniors you can get into certain courses for free in some universities. Take a look at community colleges and extension programs. Granted, it sounds like its just a fantasy, but if it does not cost an arm and a leg to indulge it might keep him a little sharper and a little happier than not. If he is physically able and there is a trailblazing group in your neck of the woods, maybe he could participate in some way. The LOViT Trail Dogs just finished a trail near Hot Springs AR and there were a LOT of old retired guys among them. Look up Lake Ouachita Vista Trail on Facebook to see some of them.

Let him research getting the forms to apply to College, download them, pick them up. Let him fill them out. Let him see what college courses cost these days.
The forms will be a test and the prices will definitely shock. If he can clear those hurdles AND he gets accepted, you may have a freshman on your hands. Maybe he can move into the dorms and visit on holidays!!

No sense in YOU killing his dream. At least he has an interest in something.

Why not have him take an online class? He will probably loose interest pretty quick. You can always tell him classes are full now and he will have to wait until next semester.
