I did ESOL volunteer work last millennium & it was pretty strict rules on helping the students find jobs unless they were legally able to work in the country. They could do volunteer stuff and learn job skills & even get certificates or diplomas but couldn’t get “paid”. No “in kind” work either, like free room & board for being a housekeeper. My understanding is its even more strict now and they can’t work at all as the sponsor needs to be providing for expenses & living costs.
If your dealing with anything along these lines, I’d suggest that you find out before you & your students get too involved in all this. It can be a big problem for their getting their needed paperwork.
