My mother grew up with 12 brothers and 2 sisters. she grew up during the Depression. I have 2 siblings, one who has severe food allergies (gluten allergies, Crohn's and now lupus). Her food needs are so specific that she usually brings her own food to social gatherings. My brother and his wife somehow got the healthy genes in the family and have a healthy lifestyle with exercise etc. I live with my parents. Dad has always been a big eater, but is now on a medication that kills his appetite. Mom continues to buy food as if we are a family of 5 instead of a family of 3. She makes these lists of sales offered at Giant Eagle, Kroger and Mejers (and sometimes Ald's). She spends a lot of time on coupons etc. and comes home with bags of food which I have to fit into already full cupboards, pantry and freezers(s). She talks about food, food savings, sales as if they are the highlight of her life (which they might be.) Living with them there is always something to eat and I have gained some weight. (I take full responsibility for my weight gain - but all this food around doesn't help.) She needs my help to find stuff in the fridge/panty, and sometimes food goes bad because no one can find/get to it/serve it or no one is hungry for it. She thinks she is saving money but after using up the gas $$ to go to 3 different stores and shop savings, only for it to be composted/thrown away/wasted 2 weeks later is a never ending waltz we do. and I'm so tired of it.

I have a reload able debit card for Mom so she doesn't overspend. It has been great.
