Sadness is normal when a loved one dies. Generally time helps the sadness be less consuming. Depression (different from normal mourning) is not typically a do-it-yourself treatment plan. Getting plenty of sunshine helps, exercise helps, for most people avoiding isolation helps (even if you have to force yourself to meet someone for coffee), and the old standbys eat healthy and get enough sleep. In other words, take good physical care of yourself.

Talking with a counselor can help determine whether your sadness is at this point clinical depression and if so to come up with a treatment plan. Another option is grief counseling. Have you tried that?

If you feel like it, you can tell us about your situation. Sometimes talking about it helps.
