My husband and I live for free in my father-in-laws home with the exception of our bills and groceries (including groceries) for him and I am unable to work to help provide for us due to taking care of him 7 days a week. How do I go about being paid for his care without family issues.

Is he a veteran? You may want to apply for aid and assistance to help.

If he has the money to pay you, just have a caregiver agreement drawn up by an attorney. It will also come in handy should he need Medicaid one day.

Most family caregivers are paid by their parents from their savings. Contact the Area Aging on Agency to find out if there are other funds available. In some states there is Medicaid money that might pay for a few hours. The amounts paid are very low per hour.
