It’s rather unreal that my housemate does not wash his hands during the day, even after going to the bathroom! I’ve found fecal matter stuck to the flusher handle and of course I clean all the urine dribbles on the seat and around the toilette. I do 99% of the cleaning in the entire home.
Anyway, I remind him often but then he gets mad & lies & so now it’s a power struggle.
I’ve shown him an article I looked up about the harmful germs, bacteria, viruses & fungi that are easily transmitted from unwashed (especially after eliminating bowels)! It’s frighteningly unsanitary! A lot of my illnesses are likely due to him spreading around millions of germs!
Help!
Ask yourself if you want to die to preserve this living situation. Because if you were to die of some disease you got from his fecal matter (and it does happen), you wouldn't be alive to enjoy the living situation anymore. So what's the point of going on this way?
You can't "get" him or anyone else to do anything they don't want to do. So you might as well accept that nothing you do or say would make a difference. Buh-by, housemate! And good luck in finding a better living arrangement with someone who understands basic health principles.
What this man is doing is disgusting and in your own words "frighteningly unsanitary."
There is no excuse for this unless perhaps if he has some kind of dementia, which of course is a whole other story. And if that is the case, then you or someone else will have to just take him by the hand and put his hands under some running water with some soap, and wash them for him, as his brain is permanently broken and he can't help what he's doing or not doing.
Either way, it's probably best that you find somewhere else to live.
There have been times where a guy will wait until he thinks the bathroom is clear to drop and others where the guy(s) could care less and just go. A few will do a courtesy flush, others don't Some wash their hands, others go from the stall and out the door. If many women only knew (or maybe they do) Lol
