He refuses to go, we need a dementia diagnosis to get care.

Good luck with that! Does he take any medications? You might fib and tell him that they will not refill any until he gets a checkup.

If not you may have to lie to him and tell him he has a skin cancer on the back of his neck that needs to be looked at. How many strong friends do you have to carry him in?

It might be necessary to sort of "trick" him in to going. Tell him that you are going to run errands and then while you are out of the house, you can take him by the doctor's office because you need to see the doctor. Once in the doctor's office, the staff and doctor can take it from there. This is what I have to do. It is actually a little easier now that mom's in a wheelchair because she's not as able to turn and refuse to go in.

Afterward, go to lunch or for a treat of some sort or visit with friends so that the memory of the doctor's office isn't the last thing on his mind.
