I need advice on issues related to the care of a disabled adult child at home. Such as when I am getting older, what choices do I have to take care of my child? Moving her to an assisted living facility, getting Home Care, and etc.
Texas. I am more concerned about my child's daily life which could be neglected without supervised by a caretaker. The situation is more like a baby who needs a sitter while parents are out. The problem is for an adult like my child a babysitter would not be able to control if my child wants to do anything at home. One example is that my child could refuse to eat.
I am so glad you are planning a head. There are so many caregivers on this forum where they are not only caring for a parent but also a challenged sibling. Most of the time because they have been living at home the parents did not get them set up with resourses and they are out there.
My nephew can live alone but I have immediate POA over his finances. He has Social Security Disability and is set up with the State to receive help with his rent. They set up a coordinator, he has a budget and an aide once a week. I also was able to set up a Special Needs Trust for the insurance money he received upon his mothers death.
If something happens to me, his care may need to be taken over by the State. He has a neurological problem where he could get early onset Dementia. At that point, there will be no one who can physically care for him.
