The 'Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act' was passed in 1982. The Affordable Care Act aka 'Obamacare' supersedes TEFRA by making Medicaid more accessible. If Grandma has cancer, the costs will easily be more than she can afford, even with a good Medicare Supplemental Insurance plan.
If all she has is Medicare, she really needs to sit down with the hospital financial advisors and talk about how she will pay for this and whether she is Medicaid eligible.
