There may not be an "average" but I have been wondering how long has your loved one had Alzheimers? I also realize that overall physical health can be a factor?
My mom was diagnosed 10.5 years ago with Alzheimer's. She is still alive and physically doing well other than weight loss of 40+ pounds in four years. I is a loooong journey for many.
My boss's late wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and it was 15 years later before she passed, and she was still quite mobile just prior to her death. Except for her memory health, her physical health was very good.
As for an average, I guess it depends when a person was first diagnosed. My boss's wife knew something wasn't quite right so she went to see a doctor. Others might not realize something is amiss, and years later the family takes them to the doctor.
