Find Care & Housing
In my State you have 90days to spend down any assets, get info Medicaid needs (like 5 yrs of bank statements) and get the person placed.

For me Mom had 20k in assets. I used that 20k to pay privately in a NH. I applied for Medicaid in April. Mom was placed May 1st paying May and June. I confirmed that the caseworker had everything he needed in June. July 1st Medicaid started.

If the person you are applying for does not have a lot of assets or a house, the application should be fairly easy. If they have a house, that is an exempt asset as is a car. SS and any pension needs to be used to offset their care.

I had the same experience Bridger did. I had no problem dealing with the caseworker. My Mom kept good records so I was able to provide what was needed.

I applied for my uncle in eastern Ohio 2 months before his money ran out. It was approved in about 6 weeks. I went to county social services office to apply. They gave me a checklist of records they needed. It was an easy process and the Medicaid worker was very helpful. I didn’t hire an attorney.

Be aware that patients can be admitted to a NH "Medicaid Pending". Medicaid will pay retroactively from date of application.

In my case it took about about a month to get approval, but I think it depends on the State you live in and I've heard for most people it takes 2-3 months.
