I would think that she hasn't very long left now. Call hospice, tell them you need reassurance and someone to hold your hand. I'm so sorry.

Is she also on morphine?

Did hospice tell you that this would be what happens, that her respiratory rate would slow?

Given their involvement, I would call them and raise the issue with them. They're the best ones to give you answers.

She is at home under hospice care. It being the weekend, hospice has not been by. I think I am going to call them.....

I'm assuming she's in hospice? The best answers would come from the nurses and/or doctor(s) who are treating her and know more about her medical conditions.

Your profile states that your mother has cancer. What stage is it?

If your mother is at home and you're monitoring her respirations, are you sure it's only 5? To have that low level of respiration as well as having been unresponsive for 48 hours would be a medical emergency if she's not in hospice.
