I'd have him make sure his doctor approves of going out in public. Maybe, he can wear a mask when he goes out. My dad drove an elder church deacon back and forth to church for over 10 years! The man had health and vision problems. If my dad couldn't make it, another church member stepped up or even the pastor. For an elder church deacon, the church should take care of this and even his other transportation needs, imo.

Also if he is on chemo he may be prone to get infections more easily and being in Church with all those people may put him at risk to catch something as his immune system is compromised from the chemo. God will forgive him if he isn't with the congregation in person as he is there in spirit.

Geewiz said it for me. Even if you hadn't mentioned church or mentioned that he's a deacon I would still say look into the local churches. Absolutely talk to the pastor or someone in the congregation.

It seems like one of the members of the congregation would be able to provide transport. Has anyone asked that an announcement be made for the deacon? My church will transport to church, medical appointments, food shopping etc.
