I’ve never used Facebook, and don’t think that social media is really a great idea. However we have just managed to come up to Alice Springs, after months of lock-down on the farm down south, which drove me partway around the bend. Also we have no mobile reception at all on the farm, which cuts out a lot of tech options. Alice Springs uses Facebook for things I want to do, like lawn sales and notices for meetings, and we have mobile reception here as well. I will have to learn it, like it or not. I see the Facebook marks on other people’s posts, but I have no idea how Facebook works in with the Forum. Can someone explain to a complete novice? I’d be grateful, Margaret

The symbol I don't understand is on the site called 'Are we getting trolled or are we just going nuts with Covid’ posted by Need Help With Mum just an hour or so ago. It on the end of the post. What is it? Please could someone explain?

Margaret, what are you talking about?

My post was, “It takes all kind to make the world go around.” The symbol is an emoji of the world. It’s on my iPhone.

How does the Forum work with Facebook, please?

Unfollow Share: [HERE IT IS!]

Hover your cursor over the word SHARE.
There are icons that appear: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Email, and Print.

Sorry, but that really does not answer your question, but may give you more information.

Well, you showed me something I didn't know either. Apparently you can share threads to your Facebook or Twitter feed. Personally I'm not thrilled with the idea, and it's not something I would do. But in response to Margaret's question, this option is no different from what you might see with an online website or news article. If you have a social media account, you can often post these outside sources to your account to inform your followers/friends about the content. I occasionally do that with news sources, but certainly not from this forum, which I consider private.

Thanks to everyone. I'll digest all this, and find a post that had the marks I thought were Facebook links. Cwillie, yes now that the computers here are up and running I can still access the Forum with no troubles. I just thought that there was something parallel on Facebook, but perhaps I was completely wrong. I don't have the 3 pronged link that Sendhelp has, perhaps because I don't yet have a FB page at all. It really is a bit confusing!

Directly under Margaret's question, there is a 3 pronged link called Share. If you click on it, it takes you to your own fb page.

That's all I know, except you can search fb for AgingCare.com, and that is where, to my dismay, I have seen many of our posts, whether we have shared them or not! Grrrrr.

Margaret, I believe that there is a way to use FB to log in to AC. Ive never used it, but I see that option when Ive logged out. I think I woukd scroll all the way down to "contact us" and ask this of the admins. If you aren't sure how to do that, PM me and I'll walk you through it. It took me 6 months to figure it out, lol. Happy to pass it on!.

I know that AgingCare is on Facebook (and Twitter, and ???) but as far as I know it is not directly connected to the forum. The site seems to be mainly article highlights and a repost of the odd question from the forum, Facebook members can comment there but those comments don't appear here on the forum. I'm guessing that those social medial links you might be seeing are so you can conveniently post links to your Facebook page (I have them blocked so I don't see them)

I'm kind of confused about your inability to access the forum as you usually would, if you are on line and can get to Facebook can't you get here too?

Unless someone added the FB 'link' in one of their comments--and I don't know why you'd do that--FB and this forum are totally separate.

If they weren't, the feeling of anonymity that is crucial to open, honest discussion would end.

I posted something on FB that I thought was a closed group. And it WAS, however, someone read my post and reposted it to their page and ANSWERED IT..it was a very delicate family situation and long story short, my son read some things he was not to know. Now he does and he got it from someone breaking the 'closed group' rules.

I guess it's always a good reminder not to post personal issues when you don't KNOW who's reading them.

And I hope that person was thrown out of the closed group!

There are some groups that are public that I would post in, except that I know that anything I post my friends would be able to read. That really really turns me off. This includes groups like The Compassionate Friends, which is for people who have lost a child. They also have some Closed FB groups, though.

I also don't think there's any connection between Facebook and this forum. I haven't seen posts with Facebook markers on them so I don't know what that is. But I am on Facebook as well as this forum so there's no issue doing that. Great that you have mobile reception again - especially during a lockdown, it's a life-saver.

I don't think there is any connection at all. I am not sure what you mean by "facebook marks". If Forum is on Facebook I haven't ever seen it there, but there certainly are many groups on facebook.
Is it hard to use this Forum and Facebook both? I don't find it so, but in times of Covid-19, with so much else cut out, there is really only Social Media, reading, crafts, gardening, whatever else we can dream up to keep from going loopy.
If there is a way to access Forum from FB and anyone knows about that, I will continue following this thread to find out.

Not sure. I don’t use it either. Best of luck though. Someone will be able to fill you in.
