What steps does one have to do to stop being health care proxy or take a break from it? Do they send an email to the family members and health care providers stating lack of availability?

Unfortunately, my sister who is the alternative, does not offer any support when I have to travel and can't be available. We have been estranged for years which does not help with this partnership.

You asked a similar question in another thread. Is your mom incapacitated or unable to make her own medical decisions? You mention living several hundred miles away so not sure what kind of break you're needing. Maybe explain the situation a bit more so we understand.

I hope others have serious answers for you.

Meanwhile…What does “take a break” mean? Is that some fantasy land where one gets to relax? ;)

It means taking time to address my own medical needs and/or if I have to travel for work....often overseas or in places with no cell phone access.
