Received an inheritance under 10k. Do I spend down before reporting the new asset or after I spend down? My social workers gave me no information said it was too complicated to involve them, other than deposit it and report new asset.

Find Care & Housing
You should have a Medicaid caseworker. I would report this inheritance.

Are you on straight Medicaid or in-home waivers? It is different requirements. If its a waiver, is your waiver administrator the Area on Aging or the third party administrator?

As this is pretty important (you wouldn't want to put into jeopardy any benefits by following possible inaccurate advice) I would check this out with your own case workers, with medicaid itself (same number as 1-800-medicare to guide you) or with an elder law attorney. You can't be wrong on this one, so don't take advice off a Forum, good as some of our folks are at this stuff.
