I also forgot to mention that to qualify for VA benefits with regard to assistance with ADL (activities of daily living) medical expenses have to be 70% of income. That's why most apply after they are in an assisted living facility.

Where I live, there's a company called Free Elder Care. com. I'm using them for my dad. Their help is free! They assist you every step of the way. The proper forms, who needs to complete them and then carefully goes over everything to prevent the VA from sending it back for more info. They also have an attorney who, if needed, will assist in setting up a Trust Account for assets over the allowed amount to qualify for VA benefits. The attorney's fee is about $3000 less than other attorney's. They've been very helpful. Hope they can help you because doing it yourself can be overwhelming.

If you are his durable POA, I believe that you can apply in his behalf.

You can download and mail the completed form to your nearest VA regional office, complete and submit online using eBenefits, or call VA at 1-800-827-1000 to have a claim form mailed to you.
