Are you an aide or caring for a LO? If you are caring for a LO, you can have Hospice come in and evaluate your LO. If its felt Hospice is needed then a doctor can sign off for Medicare.
A client, you cannot call in Hospice, this will need to be the responsibility of the person who pays you. Hospice criteria is the person will die within 6 months. Evaluations are done every months.
Call your loved one's doctor for a hospice referral. Alzheimer's is it's own classification by Medicare for hospice care, dementia is classified as Senile Degeneration of the Brain.
A person in the later stages of dementia may get worse slowly over many months. During this time they will usually:
-become more frail -have more frequent falls or infections -have problems eating, drinking and swallowing -be more likely to need urgent medical care -become less mobile -sleep more -talk less often.
