Rescue33, what are you seeing with your loved one? Dad is 10 years into his diagnosis, wheel-chair bound, lots of trouble chewing & swallowing, drooling, dementia that seems to come & go daily, needs help with everything except feeding himself (tho very messy). But otherwise, he's pretty healthy, so it could get much worse.
