My mother has CHF and we have been living and taking care of her for 8 months. The CHF clinic has recommended hospice, but mom thinks we are trying to "get rid of her." We had hospice for my dad and my mother-in-law, who lived with us until she passed, and I am aware of the good that hospice can do. How do I tell my mother that it's time for hospice?

norestforme, when my Dad went onto Hospice Care I didn't even tell him that was being done.... I felt it would only get him upset and probably even scare him. All Dad knew was that he was having more people taking care of him and he liked the extra care.

Oh. Just answered your other post.

But in regards to this question, hospice can also provide palliative care. It's not always end of life care. Tell mom it's to help her and make her more comfortable.
