Find Care & Housing
Is your mother still competent to make her own financial decisions? She can write out the checks.

I assume that you are discussing this need with your sister ... ?

I dont know my Moms finances, and I tried with my sister. I think she missed understood what I was looking for. Does health insurances help out , or is it out of pocket ??? Do I need a Doctors order???

What kind of help does your mother need while you are at work? Does she need some medical attention? A companion? Do you need a housekeeper to clean and do laundry, etc. so that you have more time with Mom? Would a doctor order some home-care for her?

You figure out what is needed and look into what is available. Then Sis figures out how to pay for it, including submitting insurance claims if that is appropriate.

You and Sis each have responsibilities for Mom. You really need to talk about this until you both understand and agree on what has to happen.

Thank you for your help. I just needed that push to get the conversation going with my sister.

Any kind of "custodial care": feeding, toileting, cleaning, dressing - basically non-medical- is paid by you or your mom. You might want to get referrals to good care-givers and they are about $20/hour. You'll go through a lot of them as your mom decides who she is compatible with. Afterall, they're with her all day or for many hours in a day. A live-in is much cheaper but they have to have 8 hours off/ day. I'm not sure how much help your mom needs.

Nursing or medical needs are usually covered by insurance but you may have a deductible that you have to pay initially. I'd agree with the above poster. You and your sister (moreso, your sister) have to get her finances in order and understand what assets she has to pay for help. You'll be amazed how quickly this all unravels. I just went through it. Aides, then Assisted Living, the Skilled Nursing, now round the clock aides.

Unfortunately, your Mom pays and only your sister can make the decision to use your Moms money if Mom is incompetent. Yup, its expensive, still doing it here, 7 years now. Good Luck.
