How do I know if the people on caregiver lists are certified?

Whether you are considering a private caregiver or an agency employee, there are certain requirements of the person you want to insure. The person should be licensed, certified and bonded. Licensing is usually required by the state. Certification insures a certain level of competency and proficiency. Bonding safeguards you from theft. If you suspect a paid caregiver has stolen from you, you can file a claim and, if approved by the issuing company, you will be reimbursed. So if you want well trained, competent, honest care, make certain whoever you hire, a private or agency caregiver, that they have all three documents.

If ur hiring thru an agency, this is a question you need to ask them, do they do background checks. If u hire privately, you need to ask for references, ask for certification and do ur own background check.

I am hoping that you have not mistaken the list of this forum's top members for a list of caregivers available for employment. That list, on the thread:
"For the Newbies" indicates posters who have contributed to answers on the forum. It is not an offer of caregiver services or prospective employees.

Are you referring to any specific lists?  "Lists" is quite general, and could range from the Alz. Assn. lists to County lists to online lists. Or are you referring to post rehab in home care, or 24/7 in-home care?  Can you narrow it down?

If you're dealing with an agency, ask them specifically what background investigations they do for their workers.  Same with credentials.  We're not able to determine the credentials of folks on lists w/o specifically checking with the affiliated employers, which isn't realistic as that isn't a function of this forum.
