Find Care & Housing
Depends on his resources. My Mother lives with me. She is on Medicaid. Medicare. No home, or savings. Only social security. I am her Personal Care Assistant, PCA. Received training through Area Agency on Aging. I am paid, but only 2 hours a day. She also attends the Adult Day care, for a break for me.

Here is something to think about when quitting one's job.

On average if a working person quits work he/she will lose over the years between $285,000 and $325,000 which includes not only loss of salary over those years... it also includes the net worth loss of the health insurance coverage.... loss of money being put into Social Security/Medicare..... loss of other benefits such as matching 401(k).... profit sharing.... workman's comp insurance.... company sponsored life insurance.... vacation pay, sick pay.... tuition assistance, etc. [source: in part Reuters 5/30/12]

Ask him how much he is willing to pay you. Start the conversation by telling him you cannot afford to live without a paycheck. Then have a lawyer draw up a legal care contract.

Well at 78 he should be on Medicare and Social Security. Look into Assisted Living for him, so you can go back to work and earn your own pension.
If he was on Medicaid, he could get a home aide but very few hours per week and only through an agency.
If he is a wartime veteran, with few assets, the VA will help with a program called Aid and Attendance.
