I would like to become a certified caregiver for my mom. I lost my job due to COVID in 2020, mom had massive stroke in 2021. I want and have been taking care of her. My savings is depleting. How can I become employed?

Find Care & Housing
JoAnn has some of the nitty gritty info for you. I will give you a link from this Forum to check out.
Do know that you will never be paid a living wage for this care, and people who move in as caregivers with parents often end up homeless, jobless and without a job history. On Forum we sometimes end up advising them to go to a homeless shelter until they can get a job and save enough for a room in someone's home. You would be much better to get trained as a CNA, and to get a real job as one. I worked my way up to RN from there.
I sure wish you luck whatever your decision is.

In PA, they have programs where an agency trains you and then you can care for a LO with the agency becoming your employer. Maybe call around to see if MD has that kind of program. Maybe Mom could receive Medicaid "in home". They would go by her income not yours. Call your local Office of Aging to see if they can help.

Your option maybe placing Mom in LTC with Medicaid paying for her care. Then you can get back to work. Because by not working you are jeopardizing you future and SS.
