Hi, I'm taking care of my 80yr old father in law with my wife in Massachusetts. We get paid for like 15 hours a week through Elder Services but, he needs 24 hour supervision.. how do we convince Mass health to pay us for 40 hours each?
Thanks

Find Care & Housing
Unfortunate, isn't it?

Paying in home caregivers is funded only minimally through Medicaid exactly for the reason Guest states. You need to get him on Medicaid and admitted to an appropriate facility. His doctor will determine the level of care that he needs. Or you could contact the Area Agency on Aging to come in to evaluate him.

Good luck.

You probably won’t. If he needs that high level of care, it’s usually cheaper to have the person in a facility. Unfortunate but true. Family caregivers rarely get paid 40 hours per week, much less 2 of them. Check out nearby facilities and decide which ones best suit your family’s needs.
