My client was in the beginning stages of dementia when he had a profound stroke. He cannot talk, and moves with great difficulty. Usually, he is incontinent.

He is very resistant to any suggestions that he bathe or shower. Sometimes he'll indicate that he's ready to take a shower and then change his mind.

What have other caregivers done to overcome this? Thank you in advance for your kind help.

Find Care & Housing
Have you tried just giving him sponge baths in his bed? That may be easier than trying to get him in the shower, as he may have fear that he will fall in it. And if you can get him in the shower, make sure that you have a shower chair for him to sit on, grab bars for him to hold onto, and a secure bath matt on the bottom of the shower so he doesn't slip.
And for the in-between showers or sponge baths, you can use the extra large body wipes, and the waterless shampoo caps.
Good luck.
