One suggestion, contact your county agency on aging for a list of volunteer sites,... go to the website link below.... click on your State.... now click on the city/county. https://www.agingcare.com/local/Area-Agency-on-Aging

Hope you find something that is win-win for you and the place you are volunteering... and thank you for doing this :)

I hada friend who volunteered for a hospice organization. Get out the phone book and call the care facilities in ur area. Where Mom was they had volunteers giving out books and magazines. Others helped with activities. With ur background u would be great. You may want to keep it to the facilities. The one my GF volunteered for sent her out to homes to visit. One client started relying on her and aides too much and did less and less for herself.

Someone with your background could be in high demand. I've been interested in finding someone with a medical background for my father and so far have gone by recommendations only from others in similar positions.
I would contact local ALF facilities directly, and interview several to get a sense of how they operate. I would think though that with your background you could get a paid position.

I second the suggestion of contacting the AAA, especially to get lists of home care agencies if no ALF facilities are hiring. However, I don't know if they merely provide a list or do any screening. You should do some screening yourself if you decide to work through any agency, as there are benefits as well as detriments.

Are you interested in working through the VA? If there are VA homes in your area, that's a possibility. It does depend on the area though. The VA we go to has received what apparently is a prestigious Planetree Silver award for high standings in its patient centered approach. This has clearly been demonstrated in the 3 visits we've made recently.
