Go for one week and don’t take partner. One week is more manageable for you, and it exposes you to less vitriol from your sister, who won’t be happy no matter what you do. It also saves your partner from whatever misery involved. But have you ever thought of how difficult it must be for sister to be sole caregiver for your mother? She has a lot of resentment, perhaps rightfully so. It would be thoughtful of you to praise her for that and to do something pleasant with her and your mother.

Yes I have thought about how hard it must be for my sister to be the sole caregiver. But my sister had opportunities to have a job and she’s been fired from jobs so many times for not showing up, calling in sick and just being irresponsible. My sister also does not do a good job of being a care giver. So I have offered to have the social work step in and take over. But my sister says my mom won’t let anyone in the house. She’s refusing help from professionals. I have gone over there on many occasions to clean my moms house. My trips there have never been about spending leisurely time with family. I go there to cook and clean up.
