Does Dad really need 24/7 care? My Dad had heart desease but did not need my Mom there with him all the time. He was capable of doing his ADLs.
Its really hard to get paid to be a Caregiver thru a program. The person ur caring for has to be low income to get any services. Medicaid does have in home care, but it for low income. Some states pay family others you use an agency that takes Medicaid.
PA has a program where family are trained as CNAs but they work for an agency and the agency allows them to work for a LO. Its probably State funded which means the LO in low income.
Hire an Estate Attorney if you can. I had to. I am being told I can receive 2% (depends on the State you are in) of anything that comes in and goes out.
You will never get paid what the job is worth, to care for someone 24/7. Most we see come to us on Forum after years of doing this are broke, homeless and without a job history. There are times, after the death of their parents we have had to suggest they go to a homeless shelter, work and save until they can afford to rent a room in someone's home. They are truly ending up behind the 8-ball, exhausted, often describing themselves as mentally ill from trying to cope. Please think ahead. This is a poorly paid job and a VERY poor life decision.
There are no programs that will help. They pay very little. Not enough to quit your job and live. If your dad can't pay for care, get him qualified to long term care Medicaid and get him placed in a facility.
