My Mom has dementia my brother has POA he put mom in a nursing home in Indiana and move to Florida. My brother has Power of attorney for my mother when she started getting dementia they both lived in Indiana and I live in Illinois I thought that would be fine but then he up and moved to Florida and it's like he doesn't care what happens to her I want to move her closer to me in Illinois how do I revoke his power of attorney my mother can't read so she didn't know what she was signing when he got power of attorney and what little money she had he took and paid his bill's with it $5000 he's a alcoholic and I didn't know this I knew he drank but I didn't know how bad he hasn't worked for 10 years and now that she's got dementia is there anyway I can revoke his power of attorney and get it put in my name if anybody can help with the answers please! I would like to spend what time she's got left with her living close to me I can't keep her at home she needs more care than I can give but I would like to go see her and be able to spend time with her before she passes she 76 years old I love her dearly I went down in September to visited her in the assistant living home that my brother put her in it was awful her hair was dirty they had took her clothes and she was just so unhappy after I came back home to Illinois her sister went to visit and she said my mom had a big bruise on her leg but my mom wouldn't tell her how she got it but she would cry on the phone with me wanted me to come get her she didn't like it there anymore and she used to like it there when she first got there. I had to call him and tell him what was going on down there and I asked him please to move her closer to Illinois but he didn't do that when he got power of attorney my ex sister in law also got power of attorney thay were not married anymore when they got power of attorney but he still does what she tells him and she told him to move her by her and Indiana so that's what he did is there anyway I can revoke his power of attorney and get it put in my name she has no money or anything but he doesn't care what happens to her as long as he doesn't have to deal with her I also didn't know thay were going to get power of attorney over her as I said she can't read and being that she has dementia is there anyway I can get POA I am on disability a fixed income I don't have money to hire lawyers does anybody have any answers out there for me please help!

Find Care & Housing
Vaarterburn, may I ask if the Power of Attorney was prepared by an attorney? If your brother used a blank form off the internet, filled it out, and you can prove that your Mom didn't understand what she was signing, then the Power of Attorney wouldn't be valid.
