How can I stop my dad from thinking he can still drive?

My dad is in a nursing home due to brittle diabetes and some dementia. He is nearly deaf only hearing in one ear with a hearing aid. If he falls he cannot get up. He is stubborn and strong willed. His friend from his last home has agreed to take him to get his license renew his car registration. What can I do that doesn't make him feel powerless?

I am surprised that a skilled nursing home would allow their patients to keep a car on the property. Or do they know the car is there? Check with the head office.

You report an unsafe driver to your state motor vehicle department. They will road test him and if he passes, fine. Your conscience is clear. Men do not give up their license without a battle.
