I begged them to keep him for the 3 day minimum so he could go into rehab but they said he was okay to leave and go home. How can I convince Drs. to let him stay in the hospital?

Can you give us more information? Is he mobile? How old is he? How did he hurt his back and what kind of shape is he in? What are your limitations?

Having gout by itself isn't a reason to be hospitalized so I'm assuming his issue is because of his back. So tell us more about what is going on and I'm sure you'll get some good answers.

Could you put him in respite care for a week or two if you can't care for him?

The mistake you made was taking him home, in my opinion. If he wasn't ambulatory, they can't just wheel him to the curb and drop him off. They have to release him to someone. That someone was you.

Can he care for himself? If not, call his doctor and ask what you should do. Or call Adult Protective Services in your area and talk to them. If he's on his own feet, can he manage on his own until his back feels somewhat better?
