Home caregiver for just an hour a day?

I too was looking for an aide to come for just one hour in the mornings to put my husband(who was completely bedridden) on the bedside commode, so he could poop. I called all the different agencies, and they all had at least a 3 hour minimum. Someone then actually recommended that I call our local Senior Services, which I did, and was given a name of a woman who had worked there for 12 years and was now doing CNA work on her own. She came every morning for one hour to put my husband on the commode and then got him back in bed for me. His body got used to pooping in the morning and there were only a couple times when he pooped later in the day and then I had to have my son come by after to work to help me. So the moral of the story is this...you're probably going to find an aide that isn't affiliated with an agency. They're out there. You just have to search. Good luck.

Bed ridden, incontinent, and you're asking about a *once a day* diaper changing service? Who does the other 3-4 changes/skin integrity checks?

Another practical challenge is: who wants to only work 1 hour a day? In my experience with agency caregivers you get the best, most reliable and experienced people when you can offer the most hours (min. part-time is 30 hrs per week). I understand your need and your ability to afford it...maybe contact a teaching hospital or nearby college with a nursing program and see if you can get any students to come and do it. Just be aware they aren't as reliable as a more mature person, generally. Or join Nextdoor.com and ask for help on that forum. You may be able to find a local willing to jump in. I'm hoping you can find what you need!

True about the agencies. Even if I worked one hour, I had to bill out for 3. JUst driving to a client's house would take 1/2 hr. I would have been LOSING money to work one hour.

Plus, why not use the aide the full 3 hrs? Then things aren't rushed and things won't get overlooked.

You're not going to be able to find agency care who only comes one hour a day. Normally an assignment is a minimum of two hours or more.
It's not worth an agency's one their caregivers' time to only come out for an hour a day.
Take the three days of service Humana pays for and go through an agency for that.
Then go on a care website and privately hire a caregiver for one hour a day. Pay them in cash because no one is going to go through the complication of getting taxes and all taken out for one hour a day of work.

I would inquire about PACE in your state. It’s a little bit of a process to apply but once your in it’s great. A god send fir my family. My mom has this insurance. It covers aides that come in twice a day, pull-ups, medication, rides, home visits etc.

My father had a heart attack late last year. He went to a rehabilitation facility, then home. He lives alone and I am 1/2 hour away! He had a staff infection and after hospitalized for another week, he returned home with a drain tube. I was able to care for him for two weeks, as I was out of work at the time. I was able to successfully find an aide to come and assist with a few hours in the morning and an hour in the evening.
